eco art earth day and beyond
Phoebe Ackley (ages 11 - 18)
Do you like making art about important issues? Explore environmental awareness, develop technical skills and have fun. Use found and recycled objects and traditional materials, such as clay, paint and collage. Exhibition on last day.
................wednesdays / miercoles ................
Spring will guide our exploration of nature with environmentally-based assignments. We will make a clay miniature birdhouse, rainproof plant markers for the garden, wind chimes, a driftwood-clay garden art mobile and nature tiles using found materials. Paint with glaze and fired in the kiln completes the ceramic process.

Have fun creating your own original characters and caricatures, inventing imaginary heroes, heroines, villains & creatures. Design "surprise panels" and "zoom" drawings while learning a wide range of exciting cartooning techniques using drawing, painting and sculptural media.

Inspired by the very best of children's literature, children create their own stories, illustrations, books and illuminated manuscripts. Young artists become young authors as well. The last day of class is a book-signing party!

Art is a childs first language. Painting, drawing, pasting, sculpting, puppet-making and a loving, non-judgmental environment help foster creativity and original thinking in young artists. A little story begins each class and a little snack ends it.

Painting, drawing and sculpture develop perceptual and motor skills as young artists discover the magic and beauty of color and form. We will emphasize creativity, originality of ideas and the joy that making art can bring.

Young artists explore a variety of media: tempera paints, oil and chalk pastels, watercolors, colored pencils, marking pens and clay. Children are enthusiastically encouraged to give free rein to their imaginations while having fun mastering basic fine art skills.

Print your favorite images the way you want, where you want. Beginners learn the basics of screen printing. Ink & paper not included. Supply list available. Bring ideas, drawings or photographs to first meeting. Teens welcome.

In honor of Mother's Day, make a paper garment, either wearable or miniature, that celebrates a special woman in your life. Materials provided, but bring special items to include in your piece. Have tea and share stories about these inspirational women. For families, dads and boys welcome.

Special Classes during Spring Break Week!

Celebrate spring in the childrens art studio! Using a variety of media, including paint, clay, markers, colored pencils and collage, young artists explore and create flowers, birds, insects, trees and express the glorious changes of the season. An art show will present their rainbow of work on the last day and will end with a group planting of inspirational flowers in the RAC courtyard.

Joyce Shon & Kiki Rostad (ages 11 18)
Design cool creations from clothes in your closet! Use images from RACs collection and your own designs to create unique, personalized clothing. Bring a black & white drawing, photo or xerox with you to the first class. Basic techniques covered. Screen prep Day One. Days Two and Three will focus on printing. Repetition, patterning and layering of color will be used to get rich built up surfaces. Inks included. Students provide the clothes and inspiration.

Its time to plan for summer. Reserve your childs spot in this popular program. Additional discount for siblings. Space is limited.
Make art and new friends while learning about different cultural art forms, developing skills and creating projects that stimulate the imagination. Painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, clay, construction and crafts! Small classes, artist teachers and an exciting, creative atmosphere will make art the highlight of your child's summer.
Children will experience the joy of creating by trying their hand at a wide variety of art experiences, such as acrylic painting, collage, clay sculpture, puppetmaking and printmaking. The emphasis is on originality, having fun while learning fine art skills and building self-esteem through accomplishment.

Please note: For all children's classes, we encourage you to enroll early so that we may have an accurate student count one week prior to the start of classes. We can then create a waiting list for classes that have reached their capacity or give families more notice if a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment. Security rules require that parents come into the Art Center to drop off and pick up children.
